Takes place close after the SoN...

Laughter echoed through the city of New Rome. Laughter, real laughter.

It had been so long she had laughed like this. So long since she had heard his laugh and felt it's warm, infectious power over take her and anyone else within a five mile radius.

They turned a corner on the cobblestone street, their hands clasped and swinging between them.

"You know," Annabeth said when she could breathe once more. "Shouldn't it be you who walks me home?"

Percy bumped her shoulder playfully. "Oh, shut up."

She smirked. "That's the traditional way at least."

His green eyes sparkled. "We're not exactly a 'traditional' couple."

"No," Annabeth agreed. She stopped and turned to look at him. The barracks stretched out on each side of her, their dark and empty looking states making them seem more like prisons rather than living quarters. She sighed; they had reached them faster then she would have liked.

"No," she said again. "But we do some things that other couples do."

"Like what?" He spoke softly. His eyes trailed her face making their way to her lips.

"Hmm," she had the classic smirk back on her face,"Well, we do this." She placed her hand gently on his cheek, caressing it lightly. He closed his eyes and sighed under her touch. With her free hand, she ran her fingers through his familiar, dark hair. She felt a rush of happiness overcome her. It was still as soft as ever. He smiled as if he could read her thoughts. "We do that." Her voice slowly became softer as she spoke.

"And," she whispered against his lips,"we do this."

She tried to kiss him slowly, softly. It worked at first.

Percy had other plans, though. He deepened the kiss, sliding his arms around her waist and pulling her right up against him. She heard his heart slamming around in his chest, and she felt her own head spin. Her bones turned to mush, her body became light as air, and Oh!--how she had missed this! This sensation of weightlessness, of flying, of utter and complete bliss...

She broke away gasping. Her mind traveled to another night approximately 8 months ago where they had done just this. They had kissed each other goodnight, their happiness leaving them ignorant of the truth--that their embrace of goodnight would turn into one of goodbye. She felt her hands begin to tremble.

"Annabeth?" Percy's cheeks were flushed, and his eyes bright with excitement. It faded as he took in her troubled expression. "Wise Girl, what's wrong?"

Annabeth bit her lip and looked away. "We did this eight months ago." She closed her eyes and took a shaky breath. "We did just this. She felt each word stab her in the heart as the sentence left her mouth.

"Hey," Percy said, looking like he would do anything to avoid the tears that were threatening to spill over. He hugged her tightly. "Hey, I'm right here, alright?" I promise you--" Annabeth winced. She had bad experiences with promises. "I swear," he revised quickly, "I'll be here when you wake up. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."

She buried her face in the crook of his neck. "I know. I just--I don't know." She stepped back and wiped at her blurry eyes. "I feel really stupid," she said laughing slightly.

"What?" Percy said with mock shock. "A daughter of Athena calling herself stupid?"

"Oh, shut up, Seaweed Brain."

"I must say that I am stunned. This is definitely a first."

Annabeth punched him the smile growing on her face.

He grinned back. "There's the Annabeth I know."

The daughter of Athena rolled her eyes, then caught sight of a Roman warrior watching them from the corner of the street.

She sighed. Probably wondering why Percy's not in the barracks yet, stupid Romans and their early curfews...

She wished she could spend the night with him, but from the dirty look the Roman was shooting her way she knew that would never happen.

She forced a smile on her face. "Well, you better get to bed Kelp Head. Your Roman friend's starting to get a bit antsy."

The son of Poseidon glanced behind him, and cursed quietly. "Even when I'm Praetor..." he grumbled to himself.

Annabeth chuckled, and kissed him on the cheek. "Get to bed," she ordered.

"Goodnight to you to," he replied sarcastically.

Annabeth watched him walk up the steps of the barracks. He looked back once to grin at her, then he disappeared into the building.

As Annabeth walked away she kept reminding herself that this was a different night in a different place. He would be there when she woke up.

He would.

Alright, a ton of people have already done the reunion fics, so i decided to do something different...the fanfic after the reunion that's not a story! :D lol I would do a reunion one but there are just too many ways i can see them meeting up that i can't decide on just one. Plus, the reunion fanfic idea has been used too many times. Anyways, to the fic...
This little idea popped in my head the other day so naturally i put it on here lol it's another Percabeth but that's cause i can't get these two out of my head! I wish the Mark of Athena wasn't so far away and i wish Riordan didn't end the Son of Neptune the way he did!!
Back to the fanfic (again) The way i see it, the first night back with Percy is going to be hard for Annabeth. I can see her being pretty paranoid when she has to separate from him at the end of the day...
but ya tell me what you think! ;)
p.s--i finally figured out how to use the shortcuts and stuff for writing! i feel accomplished now! :)
p.p.s--Ignore my title names, i'm not good at coming up with them
